Filipino-Style Spaghetti

Filipino-style spaghetti usually is slightly sweet because it’s like how everyone prefers it. Recipes in every home vary – some add finely chopped bell peppers, and others use corned beef instead of ground beef. And some put hotdogs and ketchup because kids love them.

The only ingredient that never changes is the kind of paste we use. We always use spaghetti. And in the Philippines, when you say spaghetti – this is the same dish that they mean.

I just put all the ingredients like how I remember the spaghetti in the Philippines. Adding slices of ham gave it a meaty sauce, and we loved it.
Filipino spaghetti is one of the favorite dishes usually served during special occasions in the Philippines, like birthday parties and town fiestas.

If you are searching for special Filipino Spaghetti that is thick, meaty, and creamy (the secret is adding condensed milk or heavy cream), give this recipe a try and share it with your family and friends.

You will need:
  • cooking oil
  • 500 grams ground pork; you can also use ground beef or chicken
  • 1 medium white onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 pcs hotdogs, thinly sliced
  • 5 slices of ham, cubed
  • 500 grams of Filipino Style Spaghetti Sauce from Del Monte
  • ½ cup UFC Banana catsup
  • ⅓ cup sweetened condensed milk; you can also use heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp sugar, optional
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 500 grams of uncooked spaghetti
  • grated cheese for topping
Procedure:
  1. Cook spaghetti noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a large cooking pot and add the onions and garlic. Saute until the onions turn translucent. Add the ground meat and saute until no longer pink—season with salt and pepper. Add the hotdogs and ham. Cook for about 3 – 4 minutes. Pour the Filipino Style spaghetti sauce and ketchup. Let it boil, then partially cover and simmer on low heat for 25 minutes. Add in the condensed milk and bring to a boil while stirring. Make sure that everything is well incorporated. If the sauce is drying up, add some hot water from the boiling water for the spaghetti. Add in the sugar and stir. You may increase the amount of sugar if you want it a little sweeter. Cook and simmer for 3 minutes. Please give it a quick stir, and then turn off the heat. Now the sauce is ready.
  3. Put the pasta on a clean plate and pour the cooked spaghetti sauce and top with grated cheese.
